Jean McGee, MD, PhD, MS 

Principal Investigator

Jean obtained her A.B. cum laude in Biological Sciences from Cornell University in 2003 with double concentrations in Biochemistry and Cellular & Molecular Biology. Additionally, she completed her M.S. degree in Nutritional Biochemistry from Cornell University Graduate School on a full-tuition scholarship. Jean then entered the MD/PhD Program, receiving her Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University in 2010 and her M.D. degree from Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2012. Subsequently, she completed her dermatology residency training at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and Boston Medical Center and served as the Chief Resident in her final year of training.

In 2016, Jean joined the faculty of BUSM, Department of Dermatology and served as the Director of the Laboratory for Translational Epigenetic Research and the Assistant Program Director of its residency training program. In 2019, she transitioned over to Harvard Medical School. Jean was as an Associate Program Director for the Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Training Program from 2019 to 2023. She also served as the Director of General Dermatology Operations at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 2021 to 2024. In 2024, she joined the Department of Dermatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Her clinical interests include acne, rosacea, hidradenitis suppurativa, and atopic dermatitis.

Jean enjoys spending time with her family, traveling to new places, and following the NBA (willing to engage anyone in the GOAT of basketball debate). Currently, her free time is dedicated to becoming an expert slime and squish ball maker for her little girl.

Rebeca Martinez, MD

Post-doctoral Research Fellow

Beca completed her medical training at ITESM in Monterrey, Mexico. She was a post-doctoral research fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 2022 to 2024 and has a wealth of experience in conducting human subjects research. In February, 2024, she joined the McGee Lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as a full-time research fellow. She plans to enter residency training in the US.


Beca enjoys doing Pilates daily, loves to dabble in the stock market, and is a self-acclaimed, extreme couponer!

Juna Khang, BA

Medical Student Research Fellow

Juna is a medical student at Harvard Medical School from northern Virginia. For undergrad, she attended Williams College, where she double majored in Psychology and Spanish and studied for a semester at the University of Barcelona in Spain. After college, she spent time in New York City doing neuroimaging research at Mount Sinai, investigating Deep Brain Stimulation for treatment-resistant depression. In July 2025, she joined the McGee Lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital to study the role of the gut microbiome in hidradenitis suppurativa. 

Juna loves long-distance running, with the dream of running all Abbott World Major Marathons (only 1/6 of the way there but making her way).
